I decided this week to look more closely at the small creastures
which live under my hedge.
1. I used a magnifying glass. This made things look just twice
as big. you say 2x magnification.
2. I then put some insects in a bug viewer with 20x magnification
ad drew them on the opposite page.
3. Finally I used a microscope with 100x magnification to look
at the structure of a leaf. I couse see viens and little holes
called 'stomata' which the leaf breathes through.
Mini Beasts Discovered Under My Hedge
Very many kinds of thin animals without back bones are called
worms but this is an earthworm.
It has a head and a tail. Their burrows allow air and rain to
reach the roots of plants and worms are the chief fod for birds
and many other animals.
This snail crawled across my page and used its antennae to feel
its way across.
Woodlice (Sowbugs) are more closely related to seacreatures, such
as crabs than to insects and other bugs on land.
Woodlice have armoured bodies and seven pairs of walking legs.
